From the Codex: Shoggoth Worm

Scholars' lore

The Shoggoth Worm dwells deep beneath the earth, burrowing through soil and stone with the terrible persistence of the aeons, rarely surfacing unless disturbed.

Its body is a segmented mass of mutable flesh, studded with strange organs of perception and hideous grasping tendrils. When injured, a severed section will continue to move independently, driven by its own simple purpose, forcing attackers to contend with multiple living threats where there was once but one. The Shoggoth Worm hunts by attrition. It can expel corrosive fluids to disorient its prey, then seize explorers, dragging them away from the group.

Though lacking intelligence, the Shoggoth Worm is relentless. Where it passes, the ground remains unsettled, as if the earth itself remembers having been briefly alive.
